Why RAM Prices Are Rising Again

February 10, 2026Enablet

Memory prices are climbing again as manufacturers shift production toward AI hardware. Here's what it means if you're building, upgrading, or just wondering whether you need more RAM.

If you've looked at computer parts recently, you may have noticed that memory prices are starting to climb. Industry analysts expect DDR4 and DDR5 RAM prices to continue increasing throughout 2026 as manufacturers shift production toward newer technologies like DDR5, LPDDR5X, and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI servers. At the same time, demand for AI-capable laptops, gaming computers, and data centers continues to grow, leaving less supply for everyday consumer memory. As a result, both desktop and laptop RAM kits are becoming more expensive.

For most people, this isn't a reason to panic. If your computer already has 16 GB of RAM, you likely have enough memory for web browsing, schoolwork, office tasks, and even light photo editing. If your computer only has 8 GB, upgrading to 16 GB can make a noticeable difference in performance, especially if you regularly multitask or keep many browser tabs open. However, if you're deciding between upgrading your RAM or replacing an old hard drive with an SSD, the SSD will usually provide the biggest improvement in overall speed.

At Enablet, we've also noticed the increase in memory prices while repairing and upgrading computers. Although RAM costs have gone up, we still recommend upgrading only when it provides a meaningful benefit. Many older computers can continue running well with a simple SSD upgrade, while newer systems may benefit from additional memory depending on how they're used. Spending money on hardware you don't need often provides little real-world performance improvement.

If you're planning to build a custom PC or upgrade your current computer later this year, it may be worth purchasing memory sooner rather than waiting for prices to increase further. Before buying new hardware, make sure your computer supports the type and speed of RAM you're considering, as not all memory is compatible with every system. If you're unsure what your computer needs, Enablet can help you choose the right upgrade and avoid spending money on parts that won't improve your experience.
